The course provides students with an academic and practical approach to the study of policy evaluation. The course is divided in three parts: the first part will provide the students with an introduction to the topic of the course and explore how it relates with the policy-making process. The second part will delve into the policy evaluation research and provide an overview of the main issues under debate and key challenges identified in this field. The third part of the course will be dedicated to the study of policy evaluation approaches in use at international and European levels, with specific reference to environmental issues. In the last weeks of the course, students will put in practice their acquired knowledge and, according to the number of students attending the course, will work in groups (3-5 students per group) to assess and evaluate real policies which will be identified in the first weeks of the course. A final role-playing simulation will familiarize students with the dissemination of their research findings.
