The English language course, organized by the Department for students who did not take, or did not pass the language proficiency test “TAL B2” in the preliminary session of October, aims at providing the necessary linguistic skills to tackle the topics required in the exam, as well as expanding general academic and business vocabulary, promoting critical thinking and developing those soft skills necessary for both present and life-long learning.
The main contents of the course are:
- Grammar:
Review of key grammatical structures like verb tenses (past, present, future), passive voice, modal verbs, conditionals, relative clauses, reported speech, and verb patterns (infinitive vs. -ing); nouns; determiners; linkers.
- Vocabulary:
Expansion of general academic and business vocabulary, with a focus on terms related to Macroeconomics (topics like GDP, economic growth, sustainability, and the well-being of a country) or Current Economic Issues (analyzing contemporary social, economic, and political issues through the lens of economics).
- Reading Comprehension:
Development of skills to understand the main ideas of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in economics.
- Listening Comprehension:
Improvment of the ability to understand spoken English in various contexts, including lectures, discussions, and presentations.
- AI:
Assessment of ethical and didactic implications of its use. Students will be encouraged to use AI for study, self-assessment and research purposes.
